About This UPI QR Code Generator
Every kirana store, auto driver and salon in India now takes payment by QR code — and you need no bank permission or card machine to join them. This UPI QR code generator turns your UPI ID into a standard payment QR any UPI app can scan. It is free, instant, never expires, and the PNG is yours to print or share. Use the link builder above if you also want your name or a fixed amount built into the code.
How a UPI QR Code Actually Works
A UPI QR code is simply a payment link written in a square. The link inside looks like this:
upi://pay?pa=sharmastore@okhdfcbank&pn=Sharma%20Store&am=499&cu=INR
- pa — payee address: your UPI ID (also called VPA), the only compulsory part.
- pn — payee name: the name the customer sees and verifies before paying.
- am — amount: optional; if present, the app pre-fills it and the customer simply approves.
- cu — currency: always INR for UPI.
When a customer scans the code, their app reads this link, shows your name and the amount, and — once they approve with their UPI PIN — moves the money to your account in seconds over NPCI's UPI network.
Static vs Dynamic UPI QR Codes
Static QR codes — like the ones this tool creates — are generated once and printed. The same code serves every customer, either with a fixed amount built in or with the customer typing the amount. They cost nothing, never expire, and are perfect for shop counters, street vendors, freelancers and donation or fee collection at a fixed price.
Dynamic QR codes are created fresh for each transaction by billing software or a POS terminal, carrying that bill's exact amount and a reference number. They reduce typing errors and make reconciliation automatic — why supermarkets and e-commerce checkouts use them. For most small businesses, a static code plus a soundbox does the same job free.
Why Shops and Small Businesses Use UPI QR
- No machine, no rental: unlike a card POS terminal, a printed QR costs nothing to set up or keep.
- No MDR on standard merchant UPI QR: for most small merchants, UPI payments through a bank QR carry no merchant discount rate, so the full amount settles to your account.
- Instant settlement and confirmation: money lands in seconds, and a notification or soundbox confirms it without handling cash.
- Every customer already has the app: they scan with the UPI app they already use — no new behaviour to learn.
- Works for home businesses too: tuition teachers, tailors, tiffin services and freelancers can share the same QR on WhatsApp and get paid remotely.
One QR Code, Every App — NPCI Interoperability
UPI is one common standard run by NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India), which is why the QR your bank gave you, the one on the PhonePe stand next door, and the one you generate here are interchangeable. A code created "for Google Pay" works identically in PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, Amazon Pay and WhatsApp Pay. Anyone selling you separate codes per app is selling you something you already have free.
Printing and Display Tips
- Download the biggest size: pick 500×500 px for anything printed; 200×200 is for screens.
- Respect the minimum size: at least 2×2 cm for a counter where phones come close; a 10×10 cm board is far easier at a busy billing desk.
- Keep the white border: the quiet zone around the code is part of the code — never crop it or place the QR edge-to-edge.
- Mind the finish: gloss and lamination glare can defeat phone cameras; matte prints scan more reliably.
- Test like a customer: scan the print with two different apps before printing in quantity.
Stay Safe: For You and Your Customers
After scanning, every UPI app shows the payee name before asking for a PIN — tell customers to check it matches your shop. As a merchant, glance at your displayed QR daily: a known fraud is pasting a look-alike sticker over a shop's real code. And remember the golden rule — a QR code is only ever for paying. Anyone who asks you to scan and enter your PIN to receive money is running a scam.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this UPI QR code really free? Are there charges per payment?
The generator is completely free, and the static QR code never expires and carries no per-scan charge from us. Standard UPI merchant payments through a bank QR are zero-MDR for most small merchants, so the full amount reaches your account — your bank's terms apply, as with any UPI ID.
Will one QR code work with Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm?
Yes. UPI is a single standard created by NPCI, so one UPI QR code works with every UPI app — Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, Amazon Pay and WhatsApp Pay all scan the same code. You never need separate QR codes for different apps, whatever an agent tells you.
How do I fix the amount in my UPI QR code?
Use the UPI Payment Link Builder above the generator: enter your UPI ID and the amount, and it creates a payment link with the amount built in. Customers who scan it see the amount pre-filled. For varying amounts — like a general store bill — use the plain UPI ID QR and let customers type the amount.
What is the difference between a static and a dynamic UPI QR code?
A static QR code is one fixed code you print once; the customer either types the amount or pays the fixed amount built into it. A dynamic QR code is generated fresh for every bill by billing software or a POS device, with that bill's exact amount and reference. Static codes suit counters and small shops; dynamic codes suit supermarkets and online checkout.
My printed QR code is not scanning. What went wrong?
The usual causes are printing too small (keep it at least 2×2 cm, bigger for display boards), low contrast, cutting off the white border (quiet zone) around the code, glare from glossy lamination, or printing a small pixel size too large. Regenerate the QR at 500×500 px, print it with its white border intact, and test-scan before putting it out.
Is it safe to display my UPI QR code publicly?
Yes — a UPI QR code can only be used to pay you. It reveals only your UPI ID and display name, and nobody can pull money from your account with it. Keep two habits: glance at your counter QR daily for tamper stickers, and remember no genuine process ever requires you to scan a QR code to receive money.
I changed my UPI ID. Will my old QR codes still work?
No. A QR code permanently encodes the UPI ID it was created with. If you change your VPA or close the linked account, old printed codes will fail or point to the old ID. Generate and print a fresh QR code with this tool whenever your UPI ID changes — it takes under a minute.
