About the JEE Main Photo & Signature Resizer

JEE Main is unforgiving about uploads. NTA runs India's largest engineering entrance exam, and its photograph rules are the strictest anywhere: a recent colour photo with the face covering about 80 percent of the frame, no cap, spectacles normally not allowed, and fixed KB windows for photo and signature alike. Lakhs of candidates resize at the last minute and upload whatever the cyber café hands them. This resizer prepares both files to the NTA windows in seconds, entirely in your browser. NTA uses the same 10KB–200KB photo and 4KB–30KB signature windows across its big entrance exams, which is why the preset above matches JEE Main exactly.

Specifications checked October 2026 against recent JEE Main information bulletins — verify your current information bulletin before you submit, because NTA revises specifications between cycles. Updated 30 October 2026.

JEE Main Photograph Requirements

FormatJPG / JPEG only
File Size10KB – 200KB (per recent bulletins)
DimensionsAbout 3.5 cm × 4.5 cm (passport proportions)
Face CoverageAbout 80% of the photo, forehead to chin
BackgroundWhite or light, plain
Not AllowedCap, and spectacles unless the current bulletin permits them

The 80 percent rule is where most photos quietly fail. NTA wants your face — forehead to chin, both eyes open and clear — filling most of the frame, not a distant studio shot shrunk down. Take the photo against a plain light wall in daylight and crop close before resizing. On spectacles, be careful: the bulletin pattern is that they should not be worn in the photo, with exceptions in some cycles for candidates who wear them constantly in normal life. Read the photograph page of the current bulletin and follow it literally — a studio's habits are not a defence.

JEE Main Signature Requirements

FormatJPG / JPEG only
File Size4KB – 30KB (per recent bulletins)
Paper & InkPlain white paper, black or blue pen
StyleRunning handwriting — your normal signature

Sign exactly as you will sign on the exam-centre attendance sheet — the two are compared. Photograph it closely in good light so the ink stays dark, and resize into the 4KB–30KB window.

JEE Main Document Uploads (PDF)

The form also asks for documents in PDF — the Class 10 marksheet or certificate, and category or PwD certificates. Recent bulletins put these PDFs in a 50KB – 300KB window; check your current bulletin for the exact list your category needs, as specifications change.

This resizer handles images only: to prepare PDFs, use our Merge PDF tool, and keep every document as a separate, clearly named file.

How to Resize Your JEE Main Photo and Signature

  1. Confirm the exam preset

JEE Main is selected by default; CUET UG shares the same NTA windows.

  2. Choose the document type

Select Photo for your photograph, or Signature for your signature.

  3. Upload your image

Click the upload button and pick the JPG or PNG image from your phone or computer.

  4. Resize & compress

Press the Resize & Compress button. The tool sets passport proportions and compresses the file into the correct KB window automatically.

  5. Check the preview

Confirm the face fills the frame and is sharp, or the signature is dark and readable.

  6. Download and upload

Download the resized JPG and upload it to the JEE Main application portal.

Applying elsewhere too? Try the CUET Photo Resizer, NEET Photo Resizer or the 3.5 × 4.5 cm Passport Photo page, or compress straight to a size with Compress Image to 50KB.

The Correction Window Trap

Many candidates upload carelessly assuming the correction window will let them fix everything. It will not: the window covers selected fields only, and in several recent cycles replacing the photograph has not been permitted at all. A photo with spectacles, a tiny face or a dark background can stay locked to your admit card. Treat the first upload as final — check the downloaded file's format and size in its Properties, view it at full size, and only then submit.

Common JEE Main Upload Mistakes

  • Face too small — NTA expects roughly 80% face coverage, forehead to chin.
  • Wearing spectacles or a cap — follow the current bulletin literally, not last year's advice.
  • Old or filtered photo — must be recent and look like you do now.
  • Depending on the correction window — photo replacement has not always been allowed.
  • Marksheet PDF outside 50KB–300KB — check every document's size before uploading.
  • Uploading PNG or a screenshot — both files must be JPG/JPEG.
  • Signature in capitals or typed — use your normal running hand.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the JEE Main photo size?
Recent JEE Main information bulletins specify the photograph in JPG/JPEG format between 10KB and 200KB, in passport proportions of about 3.5 cm by 4.5 cm — a recent colour photo with the face covering roughly 80 percent of the frame. Always confirm the exact limits in the current bulletin before uploading.
What is the JEE Main signature size?
Recent JEE Main bulletins give the signature size as 4KB to 30KB in JPG/JPEG format. Sign in running handwriting with a black or blue pen on plain white paper, photograph it closely, and resize it into the window — a typed or capital-letter signature can be rejected.
Can I wear spectacles in my JEE Main photo?
NTA's bulletin pattern is strict: no cap, and spectacles are normally not allowed in the photograph. Some cycles have made exceptions for candidates who wear spectacles constantly, which is exactly why you must read the photograph instructions in the current JEE Main bulletin rather than relying on last year's rules.
What size should my Class 10 marksheet be for JEE Main?
Where the JEE Main form asks for the Class 10 marksheet or certificate and other documents, recent bulletins specify PDF files between 50KB and 300KB. Keep each document as a separate, clearly named PDF inside that window, and check the current bulletin for which documents your category must upload.
Can I change my photo during the JEE Main correction window?
Do not count on it. NTA's correction window covers selected fields, and in several recent cycles replacing the photograph has not been permitted. Treat the first upload as final: verify the file size, format and face coverage before you submit the form.
Is the JEE Main photo resizer free and private?
Yes. The resizer runs entirely in your browser, so your photograph and signature never leave your device and nothing is stored on a server. It is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no usage limit.
